The score is from a recent movie I watched awhile ago called The Artist. The movie was beyond words. Definitely check it out. I think the 'public version' is available online now. Not bootleg. Whoops. This is the movie trailer. The trailer is so good it pretty much sums the movie.

Drive

I've been thinking a lot lately as of what to blog. Seems like I just ran out of topics or too much happening lately that's unbloggable not worth a mention. Anyway, saw this movie Drive recently and it kills me if I'm not blogging about it. Hmm, so where do I begin with?

Two words: Ryan Gosling. I am willing to pay my ticket for any movie starring Gosling. No kidding. Fortunately, I got my passes for the pre-screening and I ran to the theatre after my class ended early. I was so worried not getting in like the past 40 3 screenings therefore I made Leo queued there 2 hours before the movie started. It worth every second he waited for. LOL

It's such a stylized movie that every shot can be used as a photo, super super cool cinematography. It's such a simple story but the lighting and used of angles made the movie super awesome. Not to mention how minimal the dialogues were, and perfect score and soundtracks. It was such a throwback to the 80s film noir. (love the use of shadows!!! So so inspiring)

Highly recommended for movie lovers who understand film language. Not so for the regular audience like cch because you guys are gonna effing blame me for making you peeps to stay in two hours for a movie like this. (Rating: 9/10)

(P/s: Second watch was even better because I captured more stuffs that I missed during the first watch. Don't cha just love to have a friend who works in a movie theatre? I got a life size Drive poster that I'm about to hang on my wall!!)

Screening, Screening and Screening

This somewhat has became a routine for me to attend at least a movie screening a week but oh boy I've attended 3 screenings just this past few days - not that I'm complaining. Not to mention how much easier to get into the line without bitch Olivia. *with her cursing every five second definitely was one of the factors we got cut from Captain America. Anyway, cut the crap, below are the movies I watched recently:

Crazy Stupid Love

a cheerful comedy that's less Steve Carell-ish funny but emotionally moving. Great ensemble cast: Steve Carell, RYAN GOSLING, EMMA STONE, Julianne Moore (great great acting, definitely deserves a nom for at least Golden Globe), Marisa Tomei.. very well written script with an effing surprising twisted ending.  Love every single bit of it.  (9/10)


50/50

Another actor that can do no wrong in my dictionary: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Diagnosed with cancer at the first 10 minutes of the movie and the entire film centered on how his life turned upside down due to that. This lighthearted movie got it right most the part - actors, acting, story arc, characters, cameras, only one important issue - soundtracks. It wasn't good enough to provoke that kinda sadness or emotion the picture was trying to do. I'm kinda upset about that because it has so much potential to be better. (6.5/10)


30 Minutes or Less

The title serves the movie best - I literally feel like it was just 30 minutes or less. It has some funny moments and solid punchlines but it feels more like short film material than a long feature. A pretty refreshing story nonetheless but I found Aziz Ansari's acting and comedic timing were forced at times. Danny McBride was Danny McBride (as usual) - its all about pussies and dicks. (4.5/10)

Captain America

There are two ways (generally) I get inspired to do a drawing: either I am extremely upset or I watched a movie that leave real deep impact on me. So this is me doing Captain America, literally. Still in progress because it takes the patient of god to do a painting like this. Wonder how others able to do it within 2 hours. FML

Friends With Benefits

I was invited to watch this new chick flick romantic comedy 'Friends With Benefits' today and owh boy, it was hilarious! (*not to mention I'm watching it a month earlier than everyone else!)

Remember how romantic comedy always end up being repetitive and cheesy? Well expect that not from this one. It was funny, mostly because the jokes were fresh and relevant to our daily lives. I think the director, Will Gluck (Easy A, I love Emma Stone!!!) really has a good sense of humor on cliches/irrational in the same movie genre, like how he did with Easy A. I always think an important key to a successful movie is to be relevant and allow the audiences to connect themselves to the story.

Well ethically I am not allowed to spoil the movie but all I can say is, its definitely a good romantic comedy, lot of laughters, expect to see a lot of skins and awkward bed scenes. Mila Kunis is a perfect fit for the role, and I hate to say this but I think Justin Timberlake is proving himself from time to time again he can be be taken as a serious actor. Still prefer him to sing regardless. Anyway as this might not be the final cut of the film, so I think there will be some cuts and extra footages showing in the exact film. (*just like how they always can come up with something else on DVD damn it)

Movie review apart, just wanna mentioned that it was so much fun doing advanced screening. The theatre was taking shit strictly and make sure none electronic devices were taken into the cinema. (*Metal check FTW) Inside, they warned us again about the consequences of recording and what's not. They even had night vision glasses and cameras while playing the movie to make sure no one gets away with copy of the movie. ARGH. Such professional.

Hope everyone reading this will check out the movie when it opens on 22nd July.

(P/S: Peeps over at Paramount Pictures, if you are reading this, can I get an invitation to the screening of Captain America? I'll make sure I spread good words about Transformers 3 before that. LOL)

2011 Summer Movie BlockBusters (thus far!)

I've been checking on my blog stats and realized my most viewed post is still my review for 2009 Summer Blockbusters. Therefore I had decided to do a new one for now. With the summer movies that I watched thus far, here are some of my thoughts on:

1. Scream 4

Brilliantly written screenplay and hell lot of funny punchlines. I had my jump-on-the-couch moments watching it too! If you don't find the movie funny that's probably because you ain't watching enough of horror/scary movies to get its humors. Note: this is not some cheap parody movies like Scary Movies. One takes great intelligence to watch and the other one doesn't. You be the judge.

2. Fast Five

My first thought was, REALLY? ANOTHER ONE? They all looked effing same to me! I guess the studio realized that too. Therefore, instead of putting too much thoughts on storyline and character developments, they just filled the movie with more actions and gravity defied stunts. The result? A no brainer action flicks that's good for everyone!! HAHA. Anyone else thought it was kinda gay when The Rock was fighting Vin Diesel? I DID! *AWKWARD!

3. Thor

One word: overrated! Natalie Portman was the only draw for me to watch this movie. I am not the biggest superhero flick on this planet, nor will I be. And this movie was just ok to me. Weak plot, too organized I guess. And worst part, Natalie Portman is so replaceable! I am still wondering how they fell in love with each other. Love at first sight?

4. Bridesmaids

HILARIOUS! It served just right as a comedy but I think it was draggy at times and slightly too long. Everyone was so funny nevertheless! There is a NSFW blooper floating around the internet which is equally funny! Check out at your own risk!

5. Priest

Motherfucking @#$%;*&;^%#@!!! An action flick with only 3 action sequences? REALLY? They didn't even try to redeem themselves with this one after the shit they pulled out with Legion. Shame on whoever that involved in both projects!

Weekend Before Thanksgiving

As I mentioned on the earlier post before, I am having my finals now. Works have been going good, hopefully everything will turn out great. And as for today I finally get a chance to visit the cinema with friends a friend, Chelsea, for Harry Potter (XD) We've been talking about it since last week and it finally opened yesterday. Ugh. I was so excited.

The movie was not bad but we both think its a bit too long. It kinda lack of a more dynamic climax I would say, but nonetheless it didn't really disappoint much. *Spoiler ahead* The 'best' part was when Harry and Hermionie were making out. Chelsea: "it felt so wrong, like, watching video game porn." I felt so awkward because Hermionie was like the biggest prune ever but she was doing all the tongue twisting and shits like that. Totally got me shivered. Ugh. Bluekk.

I tried dressing up ala Harry Potter for the movie. Ha

Powell St. after 11pm

Not a movie that I'm gonna watch again and again. Nevertheless it was entertaining. The animation part was COOL. They had a segment with only animation and .. you should check it out. It's nice.

As for the remaining of my weekend I will stay home and do my puppet and still life drawing. Hopefully every homework can be done by Wednesday so that I can enjoy my Thanksgiving weekend. Aww.. and Black Friday sales.

Inception

I've been anticipating this movie ever since I knew about the production. I mean, let's face it, its Christopher Nolan. (Who doesn't?!) Fortunately, I was able to get myself 2 passes for the movie premiere tonight. I brought mama along because she said she's interested (kononnya) when she saw the big poster at the Dewan Pustaka junction.

So we arrived early for the show, fearing we can't get good seats.trust me, I know As I just renewed my membership last month, I didn't notice there was a mistake in my membership card and the workers mistook me as an 'expired' member. They asked me to renew my card if I wanted to get the tickets. Freaked out as I would, I was worried that they won't allow me to enter the cinema. ThankGod the workers were kind enough to let us in and deal with the issue later (tomorrow).

*fastforward* (Spoiler ahead!)

Then there was Leonardo, lying on the beach, getting slammed by some waves and waking him up..and the story went on with..OK, I don't wanna spoil that movie, all I can say is, its about dreams. Go and wiki about dream and almost everything you have there can be related to the movie. Hence, go and watch yourself and come back to comment here! I'm dying to have someone to chat about with.

Echoes of the Rainbow

I don't remember when was the last time I actually bought the ticket to watch a Hong Kong film. So today I took a break from my hectic schedules to watch this critically acclaimed movie titled "歲月神偷 (Echoes of the Rainbow)" and damn, it was good!

First of all, I am a big fan of Sandra Ng since her role in Golden Chicken. I'm always expecting Sandra will take more similar roles in the future but all the followed up movies she starred in were pretty disastrous and shiteous until this one. (WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD!)

The story centers around a family living in HK during the 60s. The father is a shoemaker while the mum sells the shoes. They have two sons together - an elder son who did extremely good in both academics and athletics and a younger son who was naughty and always get detention from teachers in school. Things seem going well until the parents found out their elder son was diagnosed with leukemia. They struggled financially to support the cost for his medical treatment. Things get worse when they stop getting anymore customers to drop by as the world was developing fast outside their town. The son eventually died followed by his father few years later. Sad.

I felt very connected to the movie because there were few scenes which remind me of my own family. The way a father punishes his son for getting bad results, mum nagging the kids to take dinners and etc. There were many sweet moments mixing with bit of bitterness, which I think is what we experience in our life. Good things don't always happen but so does bad things. We need to take a bit of both in order to live a colorful life.

Movie Marathon Day

I'm back! Finally! The last few weeks were chaotic - assignments final, video shooting and etc. For four weeks in a row, I wasn't able to visit the cinemas. (Maybe its normal for you but I usually go to the cinema once a week- at least.) Since all my assignments were submitted this week, I've decided to go to the cinema and watch all the movies that I wanted to.

The first movie that comes to my mind was The Inglorious Basterds. I'm sure all of you have had heard of it. Too bad the time slot wasn't suitable for our plan today, most probably due to the hours long of the movie and causes less showtimes, we changed our mind. There were only two more movies we were interested in - Jennifer's Body and The Time Traveler's Wife. (I'm not a big fan of Fox and Vamps and blood and... so we chose the latter one.)

I actually read the book before (to my very own surprise) so I somehow have an idea what the show was about. It's kinda disappointing when I actually watched the movie itself because most of the important details were not found on the show. A few changes were made to the storyline so that it can fit into a two hours long film. Perhaps this is the problem with adaption, not all the screenplay were written accordingly due to the time limit. Sigh. (That's why they came up with best adapted screenplay for the Academy Awards, those people should be awarded.)


I wouldn't say the show was bad because it's not - its just that the thing I love in the book wasn't seen anywhere in the movie. Sigh. But Rachel McAdams was as attractive as she is. Eric Bana was boring, quite hard to identify his age actually (we are supposed to be aware of that in the book.) Sigh.

The movie ran too fast - before I can put myself into the picture, they already getting married. Then fast forward to pregnancy and all.. everything happened too fast!! Slow down!! I wanna see more of Claire!!! Anyway, I do like the cinematography. Most shots were nice and brilliant..

If u have time, should read the book.. the movie, hmm, dvd maybe.. LOL

p.s: let's hope the next movie don't suck! (*fingercrossed "Inglorious Basterds"!*)

(500) Days of Summer

As my holiday is coming to an end, so I thought, I shall finish watching whatever movies I wanted to even though I am still going to watch movies in college time. Hence, there is this particular movie - (500) Days of Summer which I wanted to watch so badly since last month, starts screening limitedly today. Why the heck not watch it right?

It's a story of a boy and a girl, but not a love story. The title literally says everything because its about 500 different days about this girl who named Summer. Aww. Love the director Marc Webb (u might have seen his name in MTV or Channel V as he was the director for a few notable videos like PCD - Wait A Minute, Fergie - London Bridge, Daniel Powter - Free Loop, MCR - I Don't Love You (neh the black guy and white girl in mannequin 1) and many more)

The movie was very entertaining. To me its like watching an almost 2 hours long of music video. Short dialogues, cute scenes, and I love the settings. Its a present time set but the director managed to make everyone looks so 60s. Love IKEA. Love & hate Zooey Deschanel. Love Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If u have time there, go and watch it. Trust me, it worth the 6/7/8/9/10 bucks that you are paying for. Ha. (That's if its still screening la.)

Kebenaran Yang Pahit

That's the subtitle for a movie I watched just now - The Ugly Truth.. hahahaha..

Such a funny movie, its like an one and a half hour of informal sex education with some funny facts tagged along. Not to mention I love watching love comedy. Ha. (It does worth the 10 bucks I paid.)

Today was fun. Outing for the almost 12 hours - breakfastbrunch, rock climbing, pizza, gossip, kumar, starbucks, movie.. Now I can add rock climbing into my lifetime achievement checklist. Pheww.. Haha.. How nice it would be if everyday can be stress free like now right? But let's be practical, its time to get to work again. Haha.. Back to work Minty!!

Popcorn Wednesday

Earlier on today I was supposed to have lunch with someone but something came up so I decided to ditch that someone and go for a movie instead. Therefore I called up Xiao Ba and just so happened she was free as she planned to P class today. Yaiy! Game on!

So we went for this movie Public Enemies. Its not those kinda movie where everyone will like it but I certainly do. Love the setting, the 30s, Johnny Depp and his humors, Marion Contillard's tinzanness... not so about Christian Bale, he is getting boring. Grr..


Conclusion for today is, life is short. Why waste time waiting instead.

Summer Movie Blockbusters 2009 (Part 2)

6. Hannah Montana The Movie
Miley Cyrus looked less annoying this time.. the plot is predictable.. but I just like the whole Hannah Montana thing.. Another reason to like this 1 was they had Vanessa Williams and Tyra Banks in the show. Love the song "The Climb" too..

5. Wolverine
This movie really reach the throat but didn't reach the lung. The actions were nice and characters were damn interesting.. Too bad they cover too little on others. Its wolverine after all. Sigh. Next time, make a Deadpool movie.. I' ll queue for the first screening.. make sure they cast the same actor though. Ha

4. Fast & Furious
Well clearly I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel. As a manual car driver, I'm just impressed by how they were able to race using auto cars. Haha.. *ahem ahem*

3. Terminator Salvation
Being a fan of Christian Bale certainly hurt to watch this. He overacted the entire show! Damn. I hope he doesn't disappoint again in the upcoming Public Enemy! *Finger crossed* The half human half cyborg Sam Wright was the hero of the movie, not John Connor.

2. Transformers 2
Obviously this is one of the most anticipated movie of the year but sadly, Its soooo overrated! I personally don't like the idea of the egyptian thing. Again, its a movie for entertainment but certainly not a good movie. It filled with the lowest form of humors! Its very dei B childish and I can only find kids or adults who are mentally retarded will enjoy the gags. Pushing aside all that above, the CGI was good. Not to forget that Megan Fox's boobs can really act. They were running all the time trying to escape from her bras.

1. Star Trek
With lil' expectations, the movie turned out to be mind-blowing. I don't follow the original as it was meant for old hags but the movie was really fantastic. Chris Pine Rocks! So does Sylar! If you think the costumes are old-fashioned, then you are wrong! Retro is the latest trend!

Overall, most of the summer movies this year kinda suck big time. Sigh..

Never get a chance to watch this in cinema but I'm glad I finally watched it yesterday. The movie didn't really has big ups and downs but it definitely left impacts. Sigh. Nice one..

Summer Movie Blockbusters 2009 (part 1)

As many of you all may know this, I am a big kaki of movies. This is the time (summer! summer! summer!) where you can simply find me (if you are lucky enough) around the cinemas near you. LOL. Less than great expectations, this year movies didn't amazed me compared to last year or the year before. The following are the movie of my choice according to my preference:

10. Push
The visual was okay.. I must say its slightly better than last year "Jumper". Why am I watching the movie even when I was told not to? Haha.. just look at the casts.. (According to jenric, Dakota Fanning is hot; brendan pulak thinks Camilla Belle is cunned; me? Hahahahah)

9. Angels And Demons
If people are saying this movie was nice, obviously they think "I Know Who Killed Me" was brilliant! *No offense* They should have hired Professor Langdon to become a detective or something since whatever he analyzed is going to be true. Along the whole movie he only analyzed wrongly once. Impossibly possible! Not tricky at all!

8. Monsters Vs. Aliens
I was so caught up with the movie when I first saw the trailer! Seth Rogan is definitely the new funnyman. But the bad part of it, they really showed all the best clips from the film in the trailer. Literally all. The movie was like 20 minutes long to me. I just wish the movie can be a little bit more twisting.

7. 17 Again
This OMG plot is nothing fresh. I mean, who will bother to watch the flick if it wasn't because of Zac Efron. Admit it people, it ain't that interesting. It's all about Zac Efron!!! Grrr...(Its so fun to rebut with people just to get a seat for the movie. And hearing a bunch of girls kept shouting: Alamak! Aduh! Kewl la Zek tu! was just another type of entertainment.)

Sell Out!

Something must have gone wrong in me which led me to the cinema today and watched a local production movie - SELL OUT. It turned out to be quite a show. Haha.. ITS A MUST WATCH!!! It brings out lot of LOLness..(I'm not gonna be a spoiler tho, watch it yourself!!!)

Meanwhile, missions for today were mostly accomplished:
1.) Cleared my phone bills.
2.) Bought my mothers' day present.
3.) Bought birthday present
4.) lunch tea with friends.
5.) Watched American Idol on time! Yaiy! (Totally expecting Allison to be eliminated)

Fun day i had.

Slumdog Millionaired

SuperWednesday it was and I'd finally got a chance to popcorn for a movie which everyone should MUST HAVE watched by now - Slumdog Millionaire.

I walked into the cinema with quite a high anticipation, having read the critics everywhere about how great the show was. I was shivered, literally, being in the cold room and knowing how lil people* were there. It's safe to say, the movie was very well structured. (Ish, I can't stand myself talking so "formally".) To cut a long story short, you should watch the movie yourself. Haha..

Freida Pinto is definitely among a few actresses who I think is gorgeous; (The chances are as low as me telling a girl she's pretty.)

And I really adores the kids from the movie (so cute can die)

The story is kinda like a male version of Cinderella happening in India. The guy who served tea for the operators in a phone company turned to be a millionaire in just one night. The conflict was, however, people doubt about the capability of a caterer chawalla for knowing all the answers from the game show. Then he started to tell his story as a slummer and how he ended up being able to answer all the questions without cheating.

The movie certainly impacted me somehow. Perhaps an adoption from India might help. LOL. Words can't describe. YOU MUST WATCH THE MOVIE YOURSELF.

Curiosity Saved Benjamin Buttons

I'd make up my mind today to set myself free and get and break - to watch a movie - "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons". It was a movie I anticipated for quite a while since its released. The movie review was fair enough and it certainly made me curious about the plot and story lines. (Not to mention about Brad and Cate Blanchett to star in the show - its freaking awesome!) It is that bad where I just dumped all my homeworks aside to catch up the movie on its premiere day around the locals.


I'm not gonna spoil the film this time but below are a few highlights from the movie to watch out for:
1. The story behind Mr. Cake (The clockmaker, Gateau)
2. Elizabeth Abbort (Tilda Swinton)
3. Mama/ Queenie (Taraji P. Henson)
4. Daisy, the bitch heroin
5. and of course, Benjamin Buttons

The movie really left an impact on me (not to the level that I will cry for it but) as I felt time is precious and so are our lives. It took almost 3 hours for the movie and I had no regret for stealing some of my assignment working times for it. Its definitely worth a watch. Maybe a layout or an art piece inspired by the movie will be done soon. Or so I hope. Glad to watch the movie. Curiosity does killed cats (Homework not done.) Right now, I'm half drunk and don't think I can continue this anymore. Ciao

Inkhearted

I have not been to the cinemas for quite awhile, missing movies like Bedtime Stories, Ip Man, The Spirit and etc. Finally I got a chance to re-enter the cinema, with few friends of mine: Loky, yCheong, and lovely Biugor. I got to say, the movie is so so so overrated. BTW, its "Inkheart" we watched. (Spoiler ahead!)

The show started with quite an interesting opening:
Mo, a father, who didn't realize he was gifted the talent (to bring out the characters from any books if he reads them out loud) mistakenly summoned a few villains from a book, and, as return, his wife was swept into the book. Ha!

Brendan Fraser doesn't look like a father! His always-the-same-expression was killing me! Grr.. go back to the jungle, George!

Then the daughter grew up after 9 years of hunting for another copy of the same book (which I don't understand why:"was it necessary?" after the ending later) because the original copy was burnt or something. (I barely remember) Then they finally found one, and here came the crisis: villains appeared, grabbed the book and threatened the two of them to summon for wealth and fortune, etc etc. Then I fell asleep. Story continues, bad people's bad intention got badder, good people's big plan to rescue the hostage, and eventually the hero saved the day! Yaiy! Finally end!

The ending was kinda lame because it said the daughter saved the day by reading out the ending she wanted as she was writing it on her hand. WTF? If she can do that at the very beginning, what's the point looking for another COPIES (they found 3! All destroyed.)

The story is not really as excited as it was shown on tv commercial/ trailer/ preview. Its kinda sucks. Haha. But its not that bad due to some jokes and funny characters in the middle here and there.

Helen Mirren: I'm not sure why was she even in that movie. But she was fun to watch.


Farid: One of the characters from Tales of the Arabian Nights who happened to be summoned by Mo.
Overall, its a crappy show. Don't Watch it if you are fans of "adventurous" kinda movies. I will rate it a D+.
